IZK 2-1 MC Oujda: comeback and back on top

MC Oujda struck first, in the 20th minute. In the 32nd, their goalkeeper misjudged his rush out on Younes Naiym, conceding a penalty and picking up a yellow card. He stayed down for almost five minutes receiving treatment before being replaced. His substitute then dived the right way to save Mohammed Moujahid’s penalty.

IZK levelled just before half-time through Hamza Hassani Boouia. In the 70th minute, Pacom Maldini Ahandin put the Zemmouris ahead, and they held on until the final whistle.

The match also saw the first appearance of Bilal Essadrati. Signed this summer, the young striker was top scorer for Raja de Sidi Allal El Bahraoui in the sixth division last season. After coming on, he brought energy in attack and in defence, clearing a very dangerous ball in the closing seconds.

The crowd expected more from Cedric Elysée Kodjo. Last season’s top scorer has yet to score this season. Back late from Côte d’Ivoire, he only resumed training a few weeks before the league started, but the coach keeps faith in him. It is now up to him to rediscover his touch and win back the stands.

After the 1-0 defeat in Safi, IZK record their second home win of the season. With 12 points from five matchdays, they lead US Yacoub El Mansour by one point.
